NOTES FROM THE SENATE, JULY 22, 2016

TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS GOING ALL OVER THE STATE

The maker of those orange barrels and cones used in highway construction should be enjoying a boom in business as around $3 billion in Transportation funding will be spent around the state in the combined FY 2016 and FY 2017 budgets. As projects are being let, construction is beginning on road improvements, safety enhancements and funding for resurfacing of local roads. Whether it is projects already being constructed or plans on into the future, there is a flurry of activity as DOT is activating the plans already approved, and adding projects high on priority lists that were in limbo before the passage of HB 170. This is a somewhat haphazard look at what is being planned, what has been contracted for and how local governments are benefitting from wider resources.
